Was It a Google Cash Grab?

By Terry Van Horne

8 Theories For Adsense Fluctuations and Adsense Earnings Down by Jason Lee Miller of WebPro News should give Search engine marketers lots to think about. A number of the recent changes to AdWords have had me to some degree stumped. Quality Score which should have reduced costs increased them. Huh? I thought the QS was supposed to take "Made for AdSense" arbitrageurs out of the game.

It was easy to raise the QS, however, I've never seen the costs go down anywhere near the 20-30% they rose, so... I must assume there is much more to QS then Google has let on. I also believe that a number of seemingly unconnected events are possibly connected. IME, with site owners who are making their living off AdSense is that they would not react well to the plummeting click value. Their first instinct would be to sell the advertising themselves or find another "network".

Another network is a no brainer they for the most part send no traffic they just serve ads so not really an alternative unless you are driving the traffic via SEs so Google lays the law down on paid links, taking the "DIY" option away since from what I see the "Link Economy" has been torpedoed by this clampdown. In the near future I'll be writing a longer article on what I call the "Death Of The Link Economy" where I'll go over this topic from the point of view of publishers seeking monetization of resources they manage.
